The Tatacoa desert, located one hour drive from Neiva, is the second driest area of Colombia after La Guajira. It makes a perfect combination for nature, hiking and astronomy lovers. Discovered in 1538 by the explorer Jirmenez de Quesada, this ochre or grey coloured desert interspersed with the green of its cacti, is one of the most impressive natural sites of Colombia.
To visit it, it is recommended to spend a night in Villavieja, in order to discover the sites of El Cuzco and the El Hoyo, and the starlit sky from the astronomical observatory.
