The Andes in Colombia
Bogota, Barichara, Villa de Leyva
Colombia's Andean region runs through the heart of the country, outlined by three mountain ranges that structure its terrain, climate and roads. This is where the big cities, fertile high plateaus and colonial villages are concentrated. Marked by the heritage of pre-Hispanic civilizations such as the Muiscas, then by the Spanish presence, the region has preserved numerous historic centers, traditional markets and a strong religious life. Between Bogotá, perched at an altitude of 2,600 m, and the verdant valleys of Santander, adobe architecture and cobbled streets stand side by side with craggy landscapes.
