Exploring the heart of Tayrona: join the adventure with the Terra Colombia Team!

Join the Terra Colombia team for an adventure in the Tayrona region.

Our journey began in the streets of Medellin, where we are all excited about exploring the area around Santa Marta. Our mission was clear: to discover and share the region’s discoveries with future travellers.

We arrive in Santa Marta, a town steeped in history and authenticity, in glorious sunshine. As we explore its narrow streets, we discover every nook and cranny, every monument. Our excursion to the Gold Museum plunges us into a world where every object tells a story, enriched by the captivating stories and anecdotes of our guide Maxime.

We continue our journey to Mendihuaca, in the Tayrona region, where a new experience awaits us in the heart of the wilderness. After an hour’s walk through the Sierra Nevada, we arrived at the Poza Encantada, a sanctuary of tranquillity, far from the hustle and bustle of the city.

We cool off in this natural pool, which leads to a pretty little waterfall. Here, nature reigns supreme, preserved in all its splendour, offering visitors the privilege of immersing themselves in its unspoilt ecosystem.

The next day, we set off to discover the Tayronaka reserve, an activity 100% approved by our travellers. Accompanied by our local guides Adolfo and Eiber, we walk for 25 minutes to discover the historic site where an ancient lost city of the Tayrona Indians is hidden. We delve into the stories of this pre-Columbian civilisation, discovering the mysteries and remains of Tayronaka.

After this exploration rich in discoveries, we head up the banks of the Rio Don Diego where we enjoy a float down the river. Look out for howler monkeys, iguanas and many species of birds.

Back to the reserve for a typical lunch: coconut rice, grilled fish recently caught by the village fishermen and a delicious guandolo.

With our bellies full, we continue our adventure aboard a lancha, a small motorboat, down the river towards the sea. We reach the sea, dazzled by the beauty of this luxuriant natural environment.

The beach is deserted, and we find ourselves between the tumultuous waters of the Caribbean Sea and the tranquillity of the Don Diego River. It’s a perfect trio to round off our day. Maxime invites us to savour some exotic fruits, like the mamey, which was a wonderful taste discovery for the whole team. The mamey is an exotic fruit with soft, sweet flesh, native to Central and South America, with a flavour reminiscent of a mixture of sweet potato and apricot.

Or guanabana, which has a unique taste that can be hard to describe, but it’s a bit like combining the freshness of strawberries with the sweetness of bananas, all with a slight touch of acidity. It’s really delicious! This fruit is often used in juices, desserts and smoothies for its refreshing, exotic flavour.

And so ends this journey, which has given the Terra Colombia team the chance to explore the treasures of the Caribbean coast. These discoveries add to the already rich experiences on offer in this region, promising ever more captivating adventures for the travellers who join us in search of a change of scenery.
