Discover Medellin : the capital of the department of Antioquia
Located 1538 meters above sea level in the heart of a valley, Medellin is the capital of the department of Antioquia. Known as ‘the city of eternal spring”, it is the birthplace of the painter Fernando Botero.
Despite dark years marked by Pablo Escobar’s drug cartels, Medellin is today a sophisticated, green and prosperous city that is the pride of its inhabitants. The pedestrian streets of the chic and residential El Poblado district offer the opportunity to enjoy fine shops and restaurants.
Close to the city, the hills of Santa Elena are home to several farming communities that can be discovered on a day trip from Medellin. As you pass through the little towns, it is possible to stop off at the silleteros’, traditional flower growers who take part in the annual Feria de Flores.
About 80 km North West of Medellín,Santa Fe de Antioquia is distinguished by its well-preserved colonial architecture.
