You can visit the historic city at your own pace and enjoy its unique atmosphere, discover the modern district of Bocagrande, store for handicrafts in Las Bovedas, take a day trip to relax on the Rosario islands and admire the sunset from the city walls. Half-day visit to Cartagena’s main historical and cultural sites: – Convent of La Popa: perched on a hill overlooking the bay, this monastery houses a lovely patio, a colonial museum and a chapel dedicated to the Virgen de la Candelaria. – Panoramic view from San Felipe Barajas Castle: at the gateway to the colonial city, this is one of the most formidable bastions ever built by the Spanish army. Direction San Sebastian del Fuerte Pastelillo, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This was the first fort to be built in Cartagena, in 1741. It was here that the famous attack by British pirate Sir Francis Drake took place. The fort was restored in the 1970s and is home to the famous Club de Pesca restaurant. Note 1: entrance to the San Felipe castle is not included. Note 2: if the excursion takes place in the morning, lunch at the Club de Pesca restaurant is available on request. Note 3: the Popa Convent limits access to 15 people due to the dilapidated state of the site. If you are in a group of 15 or more, your guide will suggest an alternative for this visit. Afternoon free to enjoy Cartagena’s many attractions. You can visit the historic city at your own pace and enjoy its unique atmosphere, discover the modern district of Bocagrande, browse the craft stores of Las Bovedas, take a day trip to relax on the Rosario islands or admire the sunset from the city walls. Transfer from your hotel to the port of Cartagena. Departure for Baru Island. The transfer lasts between 1H00 and 2H30 and is by boat or private transport, depending on the hotel chosen. Settle into your room. Relax, swim… Note: if the transfer is by boat, on arrival at the port of Cartagena, you will have to pay the port tax (21,000 COP to date). Night at the Las Islas hotel on the Baru peninsula in a Grand Bungalow room with Jacuzzi.
