Domestic flight to Yopal . Yopal, capital of the department of Casanare , is the ideal starting point for discovering the Llanos region. You’ll set off in an all-terrain vehicle for the Hato La Aurora reserve. This reserve of almost 10,000 hectares is one of the most traditional and best preserved in the Llanos. The reserve is home to numerous animal species, including armadillos, deer, crocodiles and over 350 species of birds. La Aurora is also on the jaguar’s route to the Americas. It’s rare to come across one, but not impossible! Arrive at the reserve and settle into your ecolodge. At the end of the day, you’ll take a walk around the lodge to a palm forest where you’ll be able to observe deer and toucans. Hato La Aurora
Overnight at the Juan Solito ecolodge (basic comfort). Early wake-up call for a hike in the reserve in search of howler monkeys and birds. After breakfast by the river, departure for another horseback ride or walk through the forest and along the river. You’ll then continue by canoe to observe exotic birds, caimans, turtles, iguanas, etc. At the end of the day, you can enjoy the splendid Llanos sunset and watch the birds fly to the trees where they spend the night.
Hato La Aurora
Overnight at Juan Solito Ecolodge (basic comfort). Another day of adventure to continue observing the reserve’s animals. Today, you’ll set off on a 4×4 vehicle safari and explore new corners of the reserve, where you’ll be able to admire all the reserve’s richness and observe other animal species. Lunch at one of the reserve’s farms and return to the ecolodge at the end of the day.
