A reconnaissance trip to the end of the world?in the department of Casanare, in the heart of the Llanos region, land of cowboys, insects of all kinds, felines and anacondas…? After a 1-hour flight in a propeller plane to Yopal (the heart of the oil business and all kinds of traffic), 5 hours on the runway in an old jeep on a dusty track with holes, bumps and herds of zebus in the middle of the road… we finally arrived at the one and only lodge in the region: Juan Solito! Nelson, the owner, welcomes us between 2 pieces of harp and a fishing trip, accompanied by his faithful Leo, the cook whose specialty is capivara dumplings, and Julio, the super native guide, who wears a radiant smile from morning to night.
In no particular order, here’s what we’ve decided to offer you, our dear adventurous customers: endless horseback rides between cattle and caimans; piranha fishing in the midst of hungry caimans; safari on the roof of a pick-up truck watching the wildlife drink; turtle rescue; search for anaconda and jaguar (not guaranteed!), and birdwatching, millions of yellow, red, green and blue birds, big and small, incredible! A firework display of color between the ochre earth and the ever-blue sky.
