Exploring the heart of Tayrona: Join the Terra Colombia Team!
Embark with the Terra Colombia team on an adventure in the Tayrona region. Our journey began in the streets of Medellin, where we were all excited to explore the area around Santa Marta. Our mission is clear: to discover and share the region’s treasures with future travelers. We reach Santa Marta, a city steeped in history and authenticity, under a radiant sun. As we explore its narrow streets, we discover every nook and cranny, every monument. Our excursion to the Gold Museum plunges us into a world where every object tells a story, enriched by the captivating stories and anecdotes of our guide Maxime.
We continue our journey to Mendihuaca, in the Tayrona region, where a new experience awaits us in the heart of the wilderness. After an hour’s walk through the Sierra Nevada, we arrive at the Poza Encantada, a sanctuary of tranquility far from the hustle and bustle of the city.
We take a refreshing dip in this natural pool leading to a pretty little waterfall. Here, nature reigns supreme, preserved in all its splendor, offering visitors the privilege of immersion in its preserved ecosystem.
The next day, we set off to discover the Tayronaka reserve, an activity 100% validated by our travelers. Accompanied by our local guides Adolfo and Eiber, we walk for 25 minutes and discover the historic site where an ancient lost city of the Tayrona Indians is hidden. After this exploration rich in discovery, we return to the banks of the Rio Don Diego, where we enjoy a float down the river. Look out for howler monkeys, iguanas and many species of birds.
Back to the reserve for a typical lunch of coconut rice, grilled fish recently caught by the village fishermen and a delicious guandolo. With our bellies full, we continue our adventure aboard a lancha, a small motorboat, down the river towards the sea. The beach is deserted, and we find ourselves between the tumultuous waters of the Caribbean Sea and the tranquility of the Don Diego River. It’s a perfect trio to end our day. Maxime invites us to savor some exotic fruits, like the mamey, which was a wonderful taste discovery for the whole team. The mamey is an exotic fruit with soft, sweet flesh, native to Central and South America, with a flavor reminiscent of a mixture of sweet potato and apricot.
Or guanabana, which has a unique taste that can be hard to describe, but it’s a bit like combining the freshness of strawberries with the sweetness of bananas, all with a light touch of acidity. It’s really delicious! This fruit is often used in juices, desserts and smoothies for its refreshing, exotic flavor.
And so ends this journey, which gave the Terra Colombia team the chance to explore the treasures of the Caribbean coast. These discoveries add to the already rich experiences on offer in this region, promising ever more captivating adventures for travellers who join us in search of a change of scenery.
